Psychoeducational Assessments North Vancouver
WHAT IS A PSYCHOEDUCATIONAL ASSESSMENT?
If your child/adolescent is struggling academically or behaviourally, their school or a health care professional involved in their care may recommend that they have what is known as a psychoeducational assessment.
A psychoeducational assessment is a comprehensive evaluation of a child’s intelligence, academic abilities and includes an assessment of their social-emotional functioning. It helps parents and teachers to understand how the child/adolescent learns and provides recommendations to support the child/adolescent academically and with their social-emotional well being.
Depending on the presenting questions and areas of concerns, a psycho-educational assessment may include testing in the following areas:
- Intelligence
- Academic skills (e.g. reading, math, writing)
- Attention
- Memory
- Executive Functioning
- Adaptive Functioning
- Social-emotional functioning.
This assessment provides information about your child’s strengths and areas of weakness, in addition to their personal style of learning. This information is described in a report along with recommendations to assist in planning for your child/adolescents learning needs.
